(INSTRUCTIONAL POEM)
1.Peel away your garments like the zest of exotic fruits
2. Stand in front of the mirror Nude, exposed,
unapologetically you
3. Embrace your blemishes; hold them harder than your wish
that they never existed
4. Remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder that’s
why you’re standing in the mirror
5. Dance around to the bass of your heartbeat and the
melodies of your syncopated breath. Rest only when you’ve realized how to enjoy
your own company
And feel free enough to be happy…..happy with your life’s
rhythm
6. Compliment every part of you
7. Greet your insecurities. Ask them where they come from,
they’re age, their history, and once the conversation gets deep and fulfilling
apologize with a sweet sorry because you’ll have to let them go for there’s no
more misery for them to accompany
8. Smile
9. Check for incisions, exposed flesh, fragmented spirits
and fractioned bodice and when you find none…accept that you stand whole as one
and vow to never again search to be someone’s half.
10. Audibly announce
to that reflection your unconditional love and affection. This might be weird,
if this statement your ears rarely hear, but say it anyway
11. Repeat the aforementioned steps 1-10 everyday.
